Designboom_ since designboom last featured ‘knitted camouflage’ in 2018, collaborative artists joseph ford and nina dodd have continued their series of illusionistic knitwear photography. the meticulously-knitted sweaters, crafted by dodd, are carefully composed and documented by ford to seemingly disappear into their surroundings. the photographer emphasizes the craft by stressing that each work is generated without the use of photoshop or digital manipulation. the latest additions to the series of custom hand-knit pieces are included in the duo’s newly published book ‘invisible jumpers.’

while photographer joseph ford works closely with nina dodd to visually simulate the surroundings at a range of scales. while some pieces are camouflaged into a backdrop field of prints and patterns, others blend into small objects, larger architectural elements, and distant landscapes. with ‘knitted camouflage’ and its documentation in ‘invisible jumpers’ joseph ford continues his investigation into carefully curated, illusionistic photography — seen in an earlier project in which he set an anamorphic match of tennis in an abandoned swimming pool.
