architecten de vylder vinck taillieus exhibition at TOTO GALLERY·MA

Designboom_ ghent-based firm architecten de vylder vinck taillieu (ADVVT) is hosting its first exhibition in japan at tokyo’s TOTO GALLERY·MA. ADVVT, who considers education to be an important part of its design activities, held a workshop specifically for the exhibition at the tokyo institute of technology earlier this year. the workshop sought to discover the ‘universal essence of architecture’ by comparing contexts in belgium and japan. students were asked to analyze and reinterpret concepts behind ADVVT’s work, while inserting eleven of the firm’s houses into different contexts.

titled ‘variete / architecture / desire’, the exhibition at TOTO GALLERY·MA features the firm’s key works along with the models and drawings produced at the workshop. in addition, ADVVT offers detailed insight into its work with a constant loop of filip dujardin’s photography. almost 4,000 images form a never ending carousel of documentation.

.

‘ADVVT actively incorporates contingencies and given conditions which are often beyond their control in their design to create various spaces regardless of factors including the budget amount and the status of construction,’ says TOTO GALLERY·MA. ‘all are invited to experience architecture through ADVVT’s eyes.’ the exhibtion remains on view in tokyo until sunday, november 24, 2019.
