International Call – China Residency



10,000 RMB, travel support, and 8–10 weeks of free accommodation are among the benefits offered by the A4 Art Center, China for interdisciplinary artists.

According to Gallery Online, this cross-disciplinary program provides a platform for artists, curators, designers, and other creatives to develop their artistic and research projects in connection with the local community and with extensive institutional support.


Program Highlights:

  • Engagement with the local community and the urban character of Chengdu

  • Focus on interdisciplinary and innovative works

  • Opportunities to showcase projects through exhibitions, performances, public events, and publications

  • Use of the “Super Agent” system to directly connect with local residents and gain insight into everyday culture

  • Documentation and archiving of projects along with the publication of research outcomes


Location:
A4 Residency Art Center – Chengdu, China


Dates:

  • Spring 2026: April – June

  • Fall 2026: July – October

  • Spring 2027: April – June
    Duration of stay: 8–10 weeks (minimum 8 weeks)


Support Provided:

  • Studio and accommodation

  • Travel expenses (round-trip economy class airfare or second-class train ticket)

  • Production grant: 10,000 RMB per person/team (excluding living costs)

  • Access to local resource networks (communities, brands, and cultural institutions)

  • Exclusive cultural tours for a deeper understanding of Chengdu

  • Media coverage and promotion through official platforms

  • Opportunities for exhibitions, performances, and public programs

Required Documents:

  • Portfolio (samples of work)

  • Project proposal, including objectives, methods, and approaches to engaging with the local community/partners

    All documents must be submitted in English and Chinese


Project application deadline:

The deadline of 2026-2027 recruitment is currently located on the 31/10/2025.

Our open call lasts through out the year.

The submission after the end of October will be considered to the following year.
