Reuse the Thermae – Curinga – Architecture Competition

The seventh edition of the cultural project Reuse Italy promotes an international architecture competition on the protection of the Roman Thermal Bath of Acconia in Curinga (CZ).

The competition, open to architects, engineers, and students, asks the participants to conceive the Thermae as an archeological site, to protect it and make it open and visible to visitors.

The total prizes are 4,000 Euro. The submitted projects will be displayed at an exhibition on March 2024 in Curinga, and the winners will be invited to explain their projects to the citizenry.

The thermal bath of Acconia di Curinga are supposed to be private baths, as part of a villa built during the Imperial era. Now it occupies an area of about 1.000 square meters, but its complete shape and extension are still unknown, as well as the function of some of its spaces. Anyway, the main areas that characterized the baths are still clear and visible: there was a frigidarium, two calidaria and two tepidaria. Even if many structures have fallen during the centuries, the baths still demonstrate the remarkable architectural and engineering skills of the ancient Romans.

The contest is organized in partnership with KoozArch and with the official support of the Municipality of Curinga.

Is it possible to protect a thermal complex from the Roman times?

The answer to this question is in the hands of the architects, the engineers, and the students who will participate in this competition.

The competition is open to students (at least 18 years old), architects, designers and engineers.

It is requested to submit one A1 sheet (59.4×84 cm).
