The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology 2022

The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology is calling all artists engaging with technology to submit their best work and enter the competition for 2022.

The Prize celebrates and promotes artists working with technology globally through its annual juried competition and exhibitions.

Now in its eleventh year, this annual juried competition has given away more than US$80,000 in prize money.

The 2022 rewards list includes:

  • Gold Award (goes to the artist whose work is judged to be exceptional across all categories) – $4,000
  • Moving Image Award (for time-based work using any digital process that is narrative or non-narrative including but not limited to, animation, CGI, real-time CG, generative visuals, A.I generated visuals, video art, video game cutscenes, machinima, and music videos) – $1,000
  • Still Image Award (for 2D work using any digital process, including computer generated/graphic imagery, A.I generated imagery, photo-manipulation, plotter/drawing machine imagery, generative imagery, XR generated imagery, and 3D scanner/lidar imagery) – $1,000
  • 3D/Interactive Award (for work that engages with audiences through sound, touch or movement, including but not limited to installation, sculpture, robotics, games, apps, and websites) – $1,000
  • MindFuture Award (for excellence in art that explores future relationships between humans and AI, robotics or biotech) – $1,000
  • Global Majority Award (for art created with technology by an artist or collective from Africa, Latin America or the developing economies of Asia and the Middle East or holding passports from these countries.) – $1,000
  • Futures Award (for work that explores future relationships between humans and technology including but not limited to the use of A.I., robotics, biotech and sustainable tech) – $1,000
  • Student Award (for Still or Moving Image work created by a student currently enrolled in a degree programme) – $500
  • Nordic Award (for art created with technology by an artist or collective from Nordic Countries including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Greenlan and the Faroe Islands or holding a passport from these countries) – $1,000
  • BCS Immersive Environment Award (for an immersive experience using any digital processes including but not limited to performance, XR, virtual worlds, projection, theatre projects) – $1,000
  • HUA Award 華艺数奖 (for art created with technology by a Chinese artist or collective living and working in China) – $1,000
  • NFT Award (for work by an artist, artist collective or DAO that represents the cutting edge of the NFT ecosystem, including but not limited to works that demonstrate sophisticated use of blockchain technology, creative implementation of the non-fungible token format and cross-disciplinary projects) – $1,000

The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology competition is organized by Lumen Art Projects, a not-for-profit based in the UK.

The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology 2022 – Entry Fees

The entry fee starts from $40 and varies based on the number of entries. The base fee covers two entries. Early bird entries (3rd March — 24th March 2022) are discounted and start at $30 for two works.

The Student Award is free to enter and a total of 100 entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
