Creative workshop

Express yourself! Like a Post-Impressionist

Recreate a portrait using some of the stylistic techniques of the Post-Impressionists, in this fun, creative workshop

Join Gallery Educator and artist Jo Conybeare for this creative workshop inspired by After Impressionism: Inventing Modern Art, and recreate works from our collection that express the sitter through line, colour, surface and texture.

Jo will explore some of the mark-making and compositional techniques in Post-Impressionist paintings by artists such as Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Claudel, Münter and Picasso.

Limited materials are provided but you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook and pencils.

Joanna Conybeare is a Gallery Educator who has worked in Primary and Secondary schools in London and the south coast as a teacher and subject lead for Art and Design. In her own artistic practice, she used clay, porcelain and terracotta to explore the figure, enjoying the immediacy of the material that enables her to ‘draw’ three-dimensionally.
